THE STORY SO FAR

Proteus Instruments, a division of RS Hydro, emerged from a triumphant venture focused on real-time BOD sensing. Originating in a 27-month Innovate UK Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with the University of Birmingham, our collaborative efforts resulted in a groundbreaking monitoring platform by late 2017. Affordable, self-cleaning, and capable of real-time BOD and COD measurement, this innovation has the power to transform water quality monitoring, vital for human health and environmental sustainability. 2013

KTP between RS Hydro and UoB results in the Proteus

Proteus was formed on the back of an innovation project to develop a real-time BOD sensor. A 27-month long Innovate UK Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between the University of Birmingham and RS Hydro

2017

Commercial multiprobe comes to market

In late 2017 the Proteus multiprobe became commercially available

Proteus Instruments began to recruit our Worldwide network of distributors

2021

Proteus Instruments won the Water Dragons Highly Commended Award

This award represents the true level of innovation shown by Proteus Instruments. Alastair Moseley, Water Dragon Judge Chair said: "I am also delighted that the judges awarded highly commended to Proteus for pushing forward the boundaries of monitoring across our environment"

The Institute of Water announced Proteus Instruments as the Midlands area Innovation awards winners for 2021

Proteus Instruments got a new home

Proteus Instruments and RS Hydro moved to a larger premises to the new location at Canalside, Harris Business Park

2022

Rob Stevens, MD was on the River Teme, Tenbury Wells to show just how easily the Proteus can be used to pick up real-time pollution events in water bodies.

Proteus Instruments won the Queen's Awards

Proteus Instruments were proud to receive the Queens Awards, one of only 51 organisations nationally to be recognised with a prestigious Queen’s Awards for Enterprise: Innovation.

2023

Initial Release of Optical Ammonium Technology

Proteus Instruments are ahead of the game and have invested heavily in innovation since it was formed in 2018. Proteus Instruments have now also released the world’s first optical instantaneous ammonium measurement technique for a sonde.

Launch of the EIDO with proFluor Technology

Proteus Instruments launched the EIDO, equipped with proFluor Technology, marking a significant advancement. This launch coincides with the achievement of their second patent and the publication of their fourth and fifth scientific papers, further establishing their innovation and expertise in the field.
