WHAT IS FLUORESCEIN DYE? Fluorescein dye was one of the original fluorescent tracers although has reduced in popularity since Rhodamine has increased in popularity. It was originally chosen as its bright green fluorescence allowed easy visualisation which was advantageous for hydraulic modelling and groundwater studies. It’s major disadvantage is that it degrades relatively quickly in sunlight which can impact the overall reading and some naturally occurring fluorescent DOM can interfere with the results.
WHY IS FLUORESCEIN DYE IMPORTANT? While Rhodamine is more popular today, fluorescein still has it’s place mainly in groundwater applications.
