New Knowledge Transfer Partnership
Proteus Instruments is proud to announce the new Knowledge Transfer Partnership with the University of Birmingham (UoB) with support from Innovate UK and the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) is a five-decade-old flagship programme run by UKRI to support business innovation for growth through industry-academia collaborations. The KTP award is once again a matter of great prestige for us, following up on the
Queen’s Award for Enterprise bestowed last year.
Building on the success of the
previous KTP collaboration between RS-Hydro and UoB in 2013-2015, Proteus has collaborated with the scientists at the Department of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences to develop a real-time water quality sensor based on optical spectroscopy. We are joined by
Dr Manish Kumar as our KTP Associate, who will be utilising the recent advances in fluorescence and absorbance spectroscopy, LED technology and statistical learning for the development of the new sensor in close collaboration with UoB researchers and our R&D team.
With the
Environment Act 2021, the UK water industry is mandated to increase monitoring of discharges, including Combined Sewage Overflows (CSOs), bathing rivers and drinking water supplies. The proposed sensor will provide Proteus with a monitoring solution suitable for widescale adoption across the water industry to satisfy new requirements for CSOs and wastewater effluent monitoring. Please watch this space for more exciting news in the future.
